HARVESTER HEADS

As the eucalyptus industry constantly expands, our

customers need a high performance and

robust harvesting head that should be able to run at least 18 hour/day – Log Max’s Jesper Löfgren

the model.

Log Max 7000XT Fixed Head The Log Max 7000XT fixed head is a new version of the well known Log Max 7000XT. The fixed head version has no felling link but is instead mounted directly on the crane tip. The fixed mount configuration from Log Max uses the design and durability of the Log Max 7000XT series and gives the owner/operator the versatility of control felling and bunching. The hydraulically operated

techniques and high quality steel, minimises stress concentration and weight for increased durability. The frame also features two wear plates that can easily be replaced to maximise the lifetime of the head. With a feed unit of two

hydraulically driven Poclain MS08 radial piston motors, the feed force is almost 20 kN and feed speed reaches 5.8 m/second ensuring optimal debarking in one pass. Length measuring on the Log Max E6 is done with sensors located in one of the feed rollers. A support debarking wheel is placed at the centre of the frame. The hydraulically driven saw motor is positioned to minimise the risk of splitting the log when cutting. The saw motor comes as a choice of three: Saw 98, Saw 98XL or Hultdins SuperCut 100. These can be equipped with either a 64 cm or 75 cm saw bar with a 10 mm or 15 mm groove, depending on

rotation unit with positioning and free floating function is attached directly to the frame. The frame of Log Max 7000XT fixed head features a top saw, a minimised saw box and a fixed protection plate.

The Log Max 7000XT fixed head is a control falling unit designed to help with those tough jobs, such as power line and pipeline right- of-ways. The head allows the operation to control fell, bunch and process timber up to 560 mm in diameter with a maximum cutting capacity of 800 mm.

Log Max 6000 Twin Log Max 6000 Twin is designed with double bottom delimbing knives for better stem coverage when working with trees with low growing branches. The Log Max 6000 Twin has a cast felling link and upper knife to withstand the tough environment it is built for. The hydraulics are well-tested and found on other Log Max models and the powerful MS08 feed roller motors generates up to over 29 kN for a top speed of 4.2 m/second. The Log Max 6000 Twin has a cutting capacity of up to 720 mm

and can be equipped with Hultdins Supercut 100.

The next generation Log Max patent knife control Log Max patented knife control automatically adjusts the knives to cradle the trunk during feeding without pressing the tree up against the frame, allowing it to flow easily through the head. “Up until now, adjustments to the upper knife sensor were done manually on the head. Thanks to the next generation knife sensor the harvester's computer can adjust the settings of the upper knife sensor according to tree size and species.”

Hakmet has recently taken on the role of North American distributor for the AFM-Forest harvester head/processor brand, which covers 12 harvester/processor heads, two combi heads, an energy wood head and a felling head. With the combi head, operators can harvest, process, sort and load logs with just one head and base machine. The AFM heads are designed for demanding operations with a low maintenance cost due to reliability and universally used components. AFM heads work with all harvester bases and most measuring systems with solutions for softwood and hardwood species for harvesting or processing. Feeding speeds up to 6 m/s and force mean high production. The heads have high-strength steel delimbing knives and an exceptional three-roller, non-

sliding feeding system. Proportional pressure on roller arms and knives reduces fibre damage and timber-friendly steel rollers conserve the quality and structure of the timber. Accurate measuring is achieved by constantly centring the stem and the log diameter. Measurements are taken from rollers or knives. Simple and long-lasting block- type hydraulics are well-protected and centrally located. The heads are generally easy to install and service due to simple, service- friendly construction. Installation assistance and training support is delivered through dealers such as
