SCANNING & OPTIMISATION

The BPMP system measure the profiles of boards in transversal conveyors

view for a wider field of view, allowing each scanner to see more of the length of each board. The reduced depth of view also delivers an increased scan speed of up to 650 profiles/second, which provides finer coverage of the wane on a board. It works well in a ‘transverse scanning’ setting. The X1 has a single laser and is well-suited for lineal scanning of larger logs. Its standoff of more than 3 m (10 ft) allows you to place it further from the logs if your configuration obstructs standard scanner positioning. It works well in ‘sharp chain’ settings. The X2 offers high-density snapshot and

short-infeed scanning. Its dual lasers scan the entire length of a log in 300 mm (12 in) of travel. It works well in ‘carriage headrig’, ‘sharp chain’ and ‘lineal edger’ settings. The X3 delivers higher-density snapshot and

short-infeed scanning. With three lasers, it can scan the entire length of a log in just 150 mm (6 in) of travel. It works well in ‘carriage headrig’, ‘sharp chain’ and ‘lineal edger’ settings. The MX100oe is designed for outdoor use. The combination of high-speed digital imaging and more powerful lasers allows the MX100oe to overcome brighter-than-normal light conditions. It works well in log yard settings to sort and measure incoming log volume and in lineal bucking operations. Fiscal year 2010 marked a year of explosive

sales growth for Joescan’s signature line of JS- 20 scan heads with a 260% increase. Fiscal 2011 has seen a continuation of the trend, with projected sales showing an additional 32% growth. In the last two years, the company has

sold scanners to optimisation vendors in the United States, Africa, South America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Limab is one of the biggest suppliers and a pioneer of non-contact measurement systems for trimmer and deformation applications for the sawmills of Northern Europe. Today, the company has a broad range of sensors and systems, each one designed for its specific application. These systems are used in sawmills, planer mills, as a complement providing information to other market leading companies, for the furniture industry and other applications. “Our Board Profiler (single point system) has been supplied to more than 130 sawmills all over the world,” Limab stated. “With the new system, the customer can also combine single and multipoint techniques for applications where a full multipoint system not is necessary. This will also give the customer a more cost-
