HARVESTER HEADS

knife valve, for example, you have to pull the whole assembly apart to replace that section.” For tree-length harvesting with track carriers, Caterpillar Forest Products offers the HF201 and HF221 felling heads featuring the new Cat one- piece saw disc with 57.2 mm (2.25 in) kerf

replaceable saw teeth. The one-piece saw disc, as compared to a segmented design, improves saw recovery time and increases the cut capacity about 12.7 mm (0.5 in). The HF201 has a cutting capacity of 572 mm (22.5 in) and is matched with Cat zero tail swing track feller bunchers. With a cutting capacity of 620 mm (24.4 in), the HF 221 is superior in larger tree sizes and maximises performance of the larger Cat full tail swing track feller bunchers. Both heads are available in partial or new Cat 330° full tilt configurations. The company offers several sawheads for wheel feller bunchers, including the SH-50 and SH-56 high capacity bunching saws. Both saws are designed with large shafts and bearings for longer life. Bearing chambers are top and bottom-sealed, a patented feature which maximises shaft and bearing life by ensuring top bearing lubrication. The box construction is stronger than the tube plate construction of other heads. The twin tower frame design does not block the operator’s view of the tree being cut. The SC-57 centre post saw fells trees up to 559 mm (22 in) diameter. It also bunches medium and small stems, making it a versatile saw for thinning through final harvesting.

The 200, 400, and 600-Series heads can be fitted to a variety of carriers to ensure the right combination for any environment, and extensive head options make them customisable depending on the application. “Whatever the choice, Waratah harvester heads are known for outstanding productivity and measuring accuracy,” the supplier stated.

The 200-Series two-roller harvester heads are adaptable machines that are built to work in more sensitive applications. The small-profile head is excellent for tighter areas and thinning applications while the lighter-weight construction allows for use with smaller carriers and longer reach booms.
