STORAGE TYRE
The life expectancy and performance of tyres can be increased by proper handling and storing when they are not in use. Here is the Real Answers guide to storage
DO
Store tyres in a cool, dry and clean place. Leaving tyres outside (exposed to sunlight) for long periods will makes their surfaces dry and cracks can appear.
When tyres are on rims, store them inflated in a vertical position or on shelves.
Keep the storage area free of any nails, stones, wood chips, metal or glass fragments.
Check the roof, windows, walls and doors in the facility to ensure there are no leaks.
When stacking tyres, make sure tyre valves are not sticking out, as they may get damaged.
Rotate the stock so that the older tyres are used first. List tyres by date of arrival.
Rotate the order of stacked tyres every month. DON’T
Leave tyres on a vehicle that is not being used for long periods. Remove the tyres or they could become damaged.
Stack tyres in piles for long periods of time as they will become mis-shaped, especially the tyres at the bottom of the pile which are supporting more weight.
In the short term, don’t stack tyres in high piles. Truck and bus tyres should be horizontally stacked in piles up to 13 tyres for section width of tyre equals to 7.00 inch max or up to 7 tyres for section width equals to 13.00 inch max.
