BRIDGESTONE | RETREADING

at this certain tread depth. Pull Point is not fixed, it differs from one customer to another and depends on several factors like operating conditions, maintenance level and tyre durability. Your regular retreading advisor is the best person to decide the Pull Point for your operation.

CAN IMPROPER STORAGE OF THE REMOVED TYRES AFFECT RETREADING? Yes, improper storage could damage the casing, making them unsuitable for retreading. Therefore, care should be taken when storing the tyres and casings.

IS THERE A LINK BETWEEN PRODUCTION DATE AND RETREADING? It all depends upon the retreader and their policy on casing selection. The retreader usually sets such guidelines based on local conditions, the usage and application of the tyres, etc. One of the important criteria while checking the old casing is that it should not have weather or ozone cracking beyond an acceptable level.

WHAT ARE RETREAD TYRES? When the tyres are in service, the part that is in contact with the ground, called the 'tread', wears out. However, the tread is only a percentage of the total tyre. Even if the tyre is worn out, the major part (the casing) is usually intact and can last much longer. By retreading, a new tread is applied to the casing to give the tyre a new life.

HOW COST-EFFECTIVE ARE RETREAD TYRES? In general a good retread can be available at around half the price of a good quality new tyre (varying by market). The performance is also comparable to new tyres.

HOW IS THE NEW TREAD ATTACHED TO THE TYRE CASING? First of all the retreader selects the appropriate tread design (as per fleet specification) and of proper width matching to the casing. The tread is then cut into the correct length and a bonding layer (cushion gum) is applied to the tread base. The tread is then applied to the casing. It is very critical to apply the tread in a straight and even fashion to ensure the best uniformity for a longer tread life and lower operating cost.

CAN ALL WORN OUT TYRES BE RETREADED? No, not all worn out tyres can be retreaded, it depends on the casing (body) condition of the tyre. Good casing condition can be retreaded but a bad one cannot. Completely

worn out tyres with the belt exposed cannot be retreaded, these tyres should be removed from service at pull point.

WHAT IS PULL POINT? It is better to remove tyres with a certain amount of tread depth so that the casing is in good enough condition for retreading. Pull Point is taking the tyres out of service

IS THERE ANY LIMIT FOR THE NUMBER OF REPAIRS PER TYRE TO BE RETREADED? Generally, industrial standard is a max. of four repairs for truck and bus tyres, however, there should be not more than one major repair in each quadrant, Please be noted that the retreaders will accept or reject casings in conformity to industrial standard or fleet specifications.
