BRIDGESTONE | SIDECUT REPAIR

4. FILL THE DAMAGE

Clean the buffed edges of the damage with a wired brush and a vacuum cleaner and coat the area with black MTR-Solution immediately. Cut some stripes of raw MTR rubber from the sheet and preheat it on a preheat tray, or if you use an extruder place some MTR extruder rubber in the preheated extruder. (60 to 80°C is sufficient). Fill the damage with the rubber, first from the inside and then from the outside, layer by layer, and avoid trapping air between the layers by using a stitcher. Overfill the damage by 2 to 3mm and apply MTR-Solution to the inside and outside fill. Immediately cover both sides of the rubber fill with a heating foil to avoid dirt sticking on the rubber.

5. CURE

Cure the filled damage by using a spotter or other system. Pay attention to the correct curing time, apply pressure all over the damage filling, and ensure the correct temperature (maximum 160°C for MTR rubber) if the vulcanising equipment is not limited automatically. After the curing process immediately check the skive filling with a tyre probe. If the probe leaves a durable mark, the rubber is not fully vulcanised. The curing process must be restarted at once. If the rubber shows bubbles the pressure was insufficient and the complete repair must be repeated. If the curing is perfect, leave the repair to cool down slowly.
