By having amazing support and belief around me, I learned to believe in myself again, enabling me to cre- ate all this and more in just a year. The power of belief.

3. Follow your dream and believe in yourself

Just over a year ago, I went on a course in by the Youth Coaching Academy, with my work, supporting two young people employed as activity co-ordinators. Not knowing what to expect, and having had no previous experience of life coaching, I was truly inspired by that day, and knew from that moment, I wanted to follow this new flame ignited in me. We learned that out of the 100 delegates, 10 would be chosen to train, and be- come accredited with the outcome of providing a free Youth and Life Coaching Service in our work. The only snag was, that the funding only covered those who were aged between 18-24. Being 31, I didn’t fall into the criteria. I learned that I would have been success- ful if I was within the criteria, but I could fund myself. As a relatively new single mum, I was in no position to fund anything.

I wrote to many agencies, and trawled through fund-

ing websites, only to receive rejections. I wanted this so much, and with two weeks left before the training was due to commence, I prayed that something would come through from my persistency and Passion. In the last week, I received news that someone pulled out of the training, and the Academy insisted that I should at- tend. It was a life changing experience, and I set new goals, I wanted to do something amazing with coach- ing and set up my own coaching practice.

During the year, I set up and ran an effective coach- ing service in my work place, supporting vulnerable families to raise self esteem, realise potential and work towards their own goals, working one to one, and in workshops. I continued to support the Youth Coaching Academy, and will be supporting them on the Global Youth Leadership summit in July with my children, and now co-ordinate the Coach in Every UK City project, one person is sponsored in every UK City to complete accreditation in Youth and Life Coaching, and provide a free coaching service to a school or youth organisa- tion, undergoing a national evaluation on the effects of coaching on young people.
