THE Quay Arts recently purchased her painting ‘Te Sami’ to become part of their permanent collection. Joanne, 28, also has a masters degree from the Roy- al College of Art and is represented by online gallery
newbloodart.com. Joanne tells us “My work is concerned with collage and the immediacy of spontaneous drawing. Collecting printed and handwritten ephemera is an important part of my creative process and this often dictates the subject matter. Obsessive mark making, spontaneity, accident and embracing the ‘naive line’, are all continual themes in my work. Tese ‘drawing collages’ are best compared to the pages in a book, constructed from detailed marks and materials imploring a need to be held and viewed intimately. Tis approach is repeated in sculptural form, where small objects are obsessively wrapped using fragile material and are built to a scale not much larger than a book.” Joanne is currently taking part in a studio residency at
Portsmouth Grammar School and will be exhibiting her response to the residency in a Solo show ‘Ephemera Nar- rate’ at Portsmouth Cathedral, 14th to 26th June, open- ing 14th 7 to 9pm. Even more exciting is the news that the WW Gallery
are showing one of her drawings at the 54th Venice Bi- ennale Afternoon Tea, in Venice 30 May to 12 June 2011 With another exhibition due with Barlow Fine draw- ings at Parallax , Le Galleria, Royal Opera Arcade, Pall Mall, London from 1st to 3rd July. Te furture is very promising.
