Needless to say, Paul is the chief fitness coach and mentor for what promises to be a challenging yet rewarding hike up these 3 mountains! (highest peak in Scotland), Scafell Pike (highest peak in England) and Snowdon (highest peak in Wales) all within 24 hours, climbing 2,926 metres (nearly 10,000 feet) and walking 36 km (over 22 miles) in the process! Please dig deep in both your hearts
and pockets to kindly sponsor this endeavour. Children with Leukaemia receives no funding from government and relies entirely on donations from the public. For those children and their fam- ilies affected by this cruel disease the charity provides invaluable support during gruelling treatment and in the uncertain future for those it strikes. The Charity funds research into child-
hood leukaemia and in the last three years has committed almost £10m
directly, including the development of research facilities. Leukaemia claims the lives of 1 in 5 children diagnosed in the UK. Those that survive may be left with serious, long-lasting side-effects as a result of the intensive treatments used to save their lives. Work is on-going to develop treatments that are not only more effective in order to drive up the survival rate, but which are less punish- ing, reducing the risk of the side-effects associated with current treatments. The challenge of climbing the tallest
mountains in Britain is little compared to the bravery of those children suffering from leukaemia and their road to recov- ery. The charity needs your support in so many ways and would hugely appreci- ate your donations.
Kingspan and Trespa strongest brands in building materials A
ccording to UK architects Kingspan and Trespa are the two strongest brands in building
materials, mainly because of the high product quality these brands offer to them. This is one of the results of the Q1 2011 research of the European Architectural Barometer, a quarterly study among 1,200 architects in Europe. Architects were asked to mention
brands they perceive as strongest for building materials like bricks, concrete, mortar, insulation, facade and cladding materials, aluminium systems, con-
struction floors and roofing materials. They could spontaneously mention the two brands that they considered to be the strongest. The top 5 for the UK con- sists of Kingspan (40%), Trespa (15%), VELUX (8%), Schu
̈co (7%) and Otis
(6%). UK architects consider these brands
to be the strongest particularly because of their good quality (56%). Almost half of the UK architects also mentioned the reliability of the brand (49%). One out of three architects mentioned good pricing (35%), while 26% consider sus- tainability as an important reason.
These and many other results are
shown in the European Architectural Barometer, an international research among 1,200 architects in Europe. Four times a year, this study is conducted by Arch-Vision in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Besides indicators to fore- cast European building volumes, a topic is highlighted each quarter. This is because architects are not only a reli- able indicator for future building volumes, but they are also very influen- tial in how projects are built and which materials are used.
