With the continuing rising cost of fuel the search for alternative forms of heating is gathering pace; in rural areas the return to wood heating is grow- ing. In response to this Mendip Stoves (Eurostove Ltd are UK distributor) are introducing two new boiler stoves and a large output 8 KW stove into their popular multi-fuel stove range. The Mendip 8, available both in standard and pedestal ver- sions, has a fully welded wrap around boiler which is designed to deliver a larger output to water and less to room. Output to water is 5.3kw output room 2.4 kw. The Mendip Burrington is a built in stove designed to give enough heat to run a small three bedded house. Water output 11.4kw, room output 1.9 kw. In addition three new enamelled colours are now available on the Mendip 5: pewter, red and cream.

SOLON SE and the Sustainable Building Envelope Centre (SBEC) have joined forces to address the growing demand for an intelligent building system combining photovoltaics and metal roofing. The resulting system, which con- sists of a photovoltaic system from SOLON and a high quality pre-finished steel roofing product manufactured using Tata Steel’s Colorcoat Prisma®
, is capable of a durable performance con-
sistent with the life of the photovoltaic system and the demands of the bonded interface. This product is scheduled for release this summer. This jointly developed solution combines the SOLON SOLbond photovoltaic system with a trapezoidal twin-skin built-up system or sandwich roofing component using Tata Steel’s Colorcoat Prisma®
pre-finished steel range. enq. 173
Bicton EaRTH has appointed Skinner Construc- tion Ltd to begin the retrofit and build of its renewable technologies training and conference centre. Final approval has been granted by the Skills Funding Agency enabling Bicton EaRTH and the contractors to begin the conversion of two disused barns on Bicton College’s working farm. Work will now begin to transform the barns into a carbon neutral building with a BREEAM “very good” rating providing tailored, practical training in renewable technologies. The building will gen- erate electrical energy from photovoltaic panels on the south facing roof and a solar thermal array will provide hot water for the underfloor heating. An air source heat pump will also provide the dual function of heating and cooling the building via underfloor heating and cooling coils.
