Klober solar cable outlet kit keeps roofs airtight Klober’s solar cable outlet kit creates an airtight seal around cables, enabling them to be passed through concrete interlocking and plain roof tiles without risk of damage from abrasion or distortion. Its polypropy- lene sealing bar provides a weatherproof barrier, having been wind-tunnel tested on pitches from 20°-50°. The kit can be used with up to 8 cables of 4-8mm to connect PV systems, sensors, aerials, security lights and cameras. A universal base tile (available in 3 colours) is used with the
Klober sealing collar and provides the perfect solution for retro-fitting.

Tudor’s conservation peg tiles get top marks Bethersden Primary School, near Ashford, has undergone a major restoration of its 100 year old roof, using hand made clay peg tiles from Tudor Roof Tile Co Ltd. The £100,000 refurbishment project required 28,000 new handmade peg tiles in a mix of 70 per cent medium antique and 30 per cent dark antique
to complement the nineteenth century building and blend with the surrounding conservation area. Each tile was specially kiln stamped with ‘BPS’ for easy identi- fication. The painstaking restoration work involved stripping and salvaging, where possible, the original Victorian tiles and attaching Tudor’s ‘like for like’ replacements in the traditional way, with aluminium nails through the round peg holes. All Tudor roof tiles are made from the finest English natural clay.

Get a grip with Safetyworks & Solutions handrails! Safetyworks & Solutions manufacture a range of free standing, clamp-on and fixed handrail systems for rooftops and walkways. Their Easyguard permanent freestanding handrails are suitable for roof perimeters or the designation of access ways and fire escape routes and are suitable for both retrofit and new build. As Easyguard is non-penetrative (freestanding), it alleviates the need for weather proofing around
posts and eliminates the risk of future leaks associated with penetrative systems. The design is flatfooted and slides easily underneath rooftop obstructions there- fore providing minimal trip hazard. Easyguard is galvanised to BS/EN 1461, and is also available powder coated, again over galvanised steel, to ensure the longevity of the system and its coating. Easyguard’s base plates are fitted with bonded ribbed rubber mats, which include an EPDM foam infill.

A green roof for Shrek and friends!
Platon DE25 drainage and storage membrane, available from Triton, has been specified as part of the green roof construction at the new Universal Studios theme park in Singapore! Occupying about 35,000 m2
, the green roof is one of
Asia’s largest. Platon DE 25 was chosen as the drainage/water retention layer because the wide structural spans of the immense roof and the fast track construction of the park demanded that the chosen system was light and easy to install. The other components of the green roof build-up included a fully adhered layer of Evalon PVC-EVA terpolymer waterproofing membrane, and a non-woven filter fabric which was laid over the DE 25, followed by a primarily inorganic substrate and selected drought tolerant plant species which require little or no maintenance. The excellent insulation properties of green roofs mean they act as heat and sound shields, protecting building interiors from the tropical heat and reducing sound transmission.
