COMMUNITY SPORTS TRUST PLAYERS IN THE COMMUNITY
It has been a busy time for the Community Sports Trust coaches and the first team squad as more and more visits to schools are carried out. All of the schools who participate in the CST coaching programme have visits from players during the season. Pictured below is David Raven on his visit to join in the coaching with pupils at Christ Church Primary in Cressage. David took time out to share his skills and advice to the pupils. On a cold afternoon the session went well with lots of energy on show.
NPOWER FOOTBALL LEAGUE KIDS CUP
Shrewsbury Town Community Sports Trust are giving local schools the chance to represent the football club on the Wembley pitch ahead of the 2011 nPower Football League Play-offs. This follows the launch of the nPower Football League Kids Cup. The Kids Cup comprises six a side competitions for Under 11’s from primary schools and Under 13 girls at secondary schools that culminate in finals played at the charismatic home of domestic football.
Hadnall Primary School received a visit from Martin James, Community Development Manager, and players Craig Disley and Mark Wright. The players were attending an assembly and together with Martin produced a session on a “Healthy Lunch Box” for the children. A healthy diet is obviously equally important to a growing child as much as a professional footballer. A comparison of Mark and Craig’s healthy lunch was contrasted with Martin’s very appealing, but highly unhealthy, lunch box. The children were very well informed and really put Martin on the spot! The lads also answered questions from the floor and are pictured below with pupils of different ages.
In association with the Shropshire Schools and Colleges football Association the Community Sports Trust have hold local finals for the U11 and U13 competitions. The U11 finals took place on Wednesday 15th November at the Sports Village with Cleobury Mortimer taking victory over Oxon Primary. The U13 girls finals will take place at the Sports Village on Wednesday 1st December between 4pm and 7 pm. Many thanks to Colin Wilcox and Percy Mullaly from the SSCFA and Brian and Lee from the Community Sports Trust team for running the competitions.
Greg Clarke, Chairman of the Football League said, “The nPower Football League Kids Cup and the Girls Cup are great ways of encouraging school children to take part in competitive sport as well as offering them the chance of a lifetime to play in front of thousands of fans at the play-off finals.
