PROGRAMMES FROM THE PAST
Tonight we feature the programme from the Herefordshire Cup Final played at the Gay Meadow on April 30th 1973. This was "The Bulls" first season in the football league and a full page was devoted to welcoming the visitors who were renowned cup fighters and had certainly made their mark in league football. The programme was an 8 pager black on white priced at only 5p. The usual large number of adverts were included, and some were very well known local names eg Wem Motor Services, Sidolis, Wem Best Bitter. Allsports Publicity were actively selling advertising space on the clubs behalf.
One of the linesman from that game is likely to be present tonight - Tony Bywater now principal at Salop Leisure.......who are big supporters of the club. Local man Bryn Jones was the other linesman. A quick glance at the league fixtures from that season sees some impressive opponents- Bolton Wanderers Blackburn Rovers, Watford Swansea and Charlton Athletic. Let’s hope we can play league matches against some of these teams again in the not too distant future.
