LEAGUE 2 REVIEW Lincoln City 3 v 1 Hereford
Mustapha Carayol was Lincoln's hero as they picked up a vital win over relegation rivals Hereford. Carayol provided two inch-perfect crosses for Ben Hutchinson and Delroy Facey, and neither passed up the opportunity to head home. Stuart Fleetwood pulled one back for the Bulls when he followed up Mathieu Manset's strike. Carayol dashed any hopes of a comeback as he blasted home to seal the hosts' third consecutive win.
Oxford United 0 v 1 Gillingham Cody McDonald's first-half goal was enough for Gillingham to pick up their first away win since May 2009. The on-loan Norwich striker capitalised on new Oxford captain Jake Wright's weak backpass to round keeper Ryan Clarke and slot home unopposed. Charlie Lee and Chris Whelpdale came close to extending the lead but both planted headers wide. The U's have now suffered five consecutive defeats and were booed from the field by their fans. For Gillingham, it was their first away win on the road for 35 games in all competitions - the last coming in their final League Two game of 2008/09 when Curtis Weston's goal gave them a 1-0 win at Rochdale on 2 May 2009. It was deserved too as Gillingham had the better of the first half, with McDonald's fifth goal of the season the defining moment. Oxford improved after the break as top scorer James Constable was thrown into the fray to support Steve Maclean. Gills keeper Alan Julian pushed Alfie Potter's shot on the turn around the post, beat out a Maclean drive and tipped a Simon Clist free-kick over the bar. But the visitors defended stoutly to hold out as Tom Craddock drilled the U's last chance wide.
John NcCombe
Port Vale 2 v 1 Wycombe Defender John McCombe struck twice to lift Port Vale up to second in League Two as Wycombe Wanderers suffered their first away defeat of the
season. McCombe's SHREWSBURY to LONDON - just £40 Return Travel LEAGUE TABLE
first came when he headed home from Marc Richards' pull-back. But Wycombe equalised as Dave Winfield grabbed his first for the club, heading in from Matt Bloomfield's corner. Wycombe goalkeeper Nikki Bull produced a fine save to deny Marc Richards, but Vale clinched the points when McCombe's mis-hit shot looped into the net.
Shrewsbury 1 v 1 Southend
Anthony Grant earned a point for Southend at Shrewsbury with a stunning late volley. Mark Wright put Shrewsbury ahead after latching on to Matt Harrold's header to score his fifth goal in seven games. Wright went close to scoring a second with a sharp left-foot shot that was well saved by Glenn Morris. Grant made up for a glaring miss in the first half though with his volley, securing a draw for Southend only three minutes from the final whistle.
Stockport 1 v 1 Torquay United Stockport County substitute Greg Tansey's 25-yard strike rescued a point for his team against Torquay United. The visitors nearly went ahead through Joe Oastler, who headed Kevin Nicholson's cross against the post. Torquay did take the lead just after the hour mark, Eunan O'Kane pouncing from close range after Ashley Hemmings' low shot had struck the post. But Tansey levelled matters, smashing a shot past Torquay goalkeeper Scott Bevan from distance.
