PROJECT News Sign 2000 completes new signage

at UK’s ‘greenest’ hotel

In association with retained Whitbread project management company VADO, Kent-based corporate signage specialist Sign 2000 has completed new signage at what is claimed to be the UK’s ‘greenest’ hotel/pub restaurant. The Acorn in Burgess Hill in Sussex has used advanced technology and equipment incorporated in its design that collectively delivers a high level of green awareness and led to a staggering 80 per cent reduction in energy consumption by comparison with other UK Premier Inn sites. The contract came within Sign 2000’s remit as

a retained sustainability partner by Whitbread, the UK’s leading hospitality company embracing such well known and much loved brands as Premier Inn, Beefeater Grill, Brewer’s Fayre, Taybarns, Table Table and COSTA Coffee. Sign 2000 was chosen due to its long and successful working relationship with Whitbread, its complementary environmental policies (including an in-house green awareness team), status as one of the leading providers of sustainable signage solutions and accreditation to the environmental standard ISO 14001.

Based on this level of knowledge and practical experience,

Sign 2000 was able to recommend the most appropriate materials and manufacturing techniques to visually comply with the new look and feel required. Signage included main identity in both illuminated and non-illuminated formats, directional and brand awareness throughout The Acorn site. This included the use of aluminium composite material (ACM), special night/day acrylic sheet material and LED illumination.

The sustainable technologies employed included timber frame

construction, natural energy from the earth, inventive insulation and clever lighting, harvesting and water recycling, low-flow showers, energy-efficient kitchen equipment, solar panelling and an anaerobic digestion waste recycling system. Through this system, waste materials are broken down by micro-organisms and transformed into ‘green’ electricity and bio fertilisers for use on local crops.
