Event Prop Hire, one of the UK’s premier prop manufacturers and set designers, has recently installed its first Tekcel CNC router and revolutionised the way it manufactures props and set builds. Although it has its studio, workshops and warehouses in
York, Event Prop Hire has a global reputation and has provided its services to companies all over the world, winning many awards for the props and sets it has created over the years. Followers of TV shows like Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing on Ice will have seen some of the company’s prop and set making skills. As would fans of The Saturdays and Girls Aloud; both bands have used the services of Event Prop Hire to dress their stages on recent tours. Although the business is very much grounded in traditional
skills, employing the talents of sculptors, joiners and scenic artists, Event Prop Hire, had researched the possibility of employing a CNC router to enhance its manufacturing capabilities still further. Having evaluated several systems at various trade shows, Production Director, Matt East, was introduced to Tekcel CNC Solutions and its range of advanced CNC routers. Impressed by the diverse range of samples displayed
on the Tekcel stand, the sheer versatility of the routers themselves and their apparent ease of operation, Matt arranged a one to one demonstration to run through some of the files, materials and manufacturing processes common to prop and set building. Needless to say, Tekcel passed with flying colours and Event Prop Hire took delivery of its very own Tekcel VSR router, complete with Auto Tool Change, Auto Tool Sensing, Auto Vacuum Bed and Extraction, within a couple of weeks of the successful demonstration. So what do Matt and
the team at Event Prop Hire think now that they’ve had a chance to put the Tekcel router to the test for a few months? “Put simply, having the router has
transformed the way we think and work,” enthused Matt. “It’s been running all day, every day without a hitch and the guys are constantly thinking of new ways we can use the router to produce stunning props and special effects.
