year alone, the gang has raised in excess of $2,500 and continues to support the families of our troops.” He goes on to say that the club hopes this year to have

an all-Corvette show in conjunction with the Soldier On organization. He says their motto for this venture is “High- performance cars helping high-performance individuals”. I am not surprised that a car club has donated its time

and money for a worthy cause. This is what makes our Ottawa Car Club community so vital. If this is not enough, then ladies and gentlemen, I ask

you to please indulge me one last time. Close your eyes and envision 20,000 Corvettes all in

one place at one time. (Peppe, have you been drinking? you ask.) Nope. Corvettes at Carlisle (Pennsylvania) hosts an

annual meet which attracts between 20,000 to 25,000 Corvettes. It is held the last weekend in August, and the Capital Corvette Club organizes a trip among the members to attend. It boasts a huge flea market, Concours, auctions, Corvette Corral, Dyno Testing, Autocross and even a Corvette giveaway prize. You name it, it’s there. This three-day event is the highlight of all the Corvette Clubs across North America, and draws Corvette enthusiasts

from Europe (Sweden has one of the largest Corvette Clubs in the world, and many of their members attend Corvettes at Carlisle). How do I join, you ask? The membership fee is $75 per year (with all the

registration information on the club’s web site) and the club meets regularly, usually in conjunction with a dinner. What strikes me as being generous is that all the events are covered by the membership fee, so most of the events are no-charge for the entire year. With all these events and activities, if you own a

Corvette, get to your computer right now and do the following: Go online. Type in www.capitalcorvetteclub.ca. JOIN UP! As a past club organizer, let me tell you that to have

this many activities available to you is a real treat and should be rewarded with a big increase in membership. So, if you are an owner, sign up. If you know Corvette owners, please give them the co-ordinates. They may just be missing out on the best summer of their lives. Until next time, keep smiling … and see you in my

rear view mirror.
