Dodge Rodeo Championships By Kelly Bowers

September 17, 18 and 19th, the Final Dodge Rodeo Championships took place at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga. In 2011, the name of the tour will be changed to the New Ram Rodeo Tour, and organizers look forward to an expanded pro- gram. Once again, competing cow- boys and cowgirls enjoyed the great facility which protected them from the interference of bad weather. They have been very busy recently, with the tour holding 4 full rodeos in the last three weekends. They include the London Western Fair, International Plowing Match and the Hershey Centre Championships.

The competitors at the Hershey Centre really came to play and spec- tators watched what some describe as the best competition this year. The weekend was not with out challenges as the grounds poised a problem Sat- urday. Out of respect for the safety of horses competing, organizers chose to postpone the running of the barrels until they were assured that condi- tions were the best they could be. Jessy Mathieu had a great weekend winning the Barrels while Colby Robertson (9 Yrs. Old) won

the Jr.Barrels, finishing a tremendous year. Steer Wrestling saw Roy Rae win his first championship. Stephanie Gregson became the first women to qualify for the Dodge Championship in Tie Down and was one of the most consistant ropers this year. Ross Millar sends his congratu- lations to all the 2010 Champions; They are as follows: Bareback - Matt Ford (Matts last ride he pulled a groin and is currently recovering.) Bull Riding - James Bouvier ( A rookie that took lessons from Rueben Geleynse)

yrs. old, also year end champion) Team Roping - Kevin and Brandon Hennings (2 cousins that roped con- sistently and won their first Dodge Finals Buckles)

This was a successful year for rodeo in the province. There are now 186 members of the CCA here in Ontario and a full team will travel to Regina to represent Ontario.
