28/ OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2010 THE RIDER

Ontario High School Rodeo Association News

By Sarah McEachern.

The last two Ontario High School Rodeo Association rodeos before the winter were held this past Saturday October 16th at the TLC Quarter Horses Arena in Hillsburgh. It was a great day with lots of excite- ment. The weather was great, lots of sun, a little wind and no rain.

with a time of 8.28 seconds; for- merly held by Tyrel Donaldson and Tim Wetlauffer.

There were 26 members who competed in 12 events. The wind took a toll on the roping events and the pole bending. There weren’t many catches and just the slightest bump of a pole sent it to the ground. The com- petition heated up with the bar- rels, poles and goat tying. It is going to be an exciting year with lots of changes in the standings. Congratulations go out to Tamara Weese and Brandon Hennings who broke the arena record in Dally Team Roping

BJ Prince of Rawhide Rodeos has offered to pay the entry fees and supply the equip- ment for any members interested in competing in Bareback Rid- ing and Saddle Bronc Riding. This is a great opportunity for boys to try out a new event and join a fantastic association. For more information please contact BJ at Rawhide Rodeos admin@rawhiderodeo.com or contact one of our directors. Special thanks go out to our many sponsors and volun- teers who make it possible for us to compete.

We want to welcome our four newest members, Jacob Elder, Brandon Hennings, Scott McMahon and Tyson Schieck- off. Jacob is riding bulls, Bran- don is a heeler in dally team

roping and calf roping, Scott is competing in tie-down roping and Tyson is a header in dally team roping. It is great to have new members, and we would always welcome more.

The rodeos aren’t just about competing. It is not just the spectators that cheer on the competitors, but the competitors cheering each other on. Mem- bers can be seen helping each other out. It was great to hear from one of our newest mem- bers what makes OHSRA so special. He was happy and appreciative of all the support, assistance and feeling of wel- come that he experienced at his first OHSRA Rodeo.

As always we had a great time at the rodeos. OHSRA is a great association to be part of. Check out our website www.ohsra.ca and come and join us.
