Area 3 News
The Area3 Promotional Club had another very success- ful show season in 2010.With some obstacles to overcome such as the economy the board seemed to work extra hard to ensure that the shows were as good and even better for you the exhibitors.
The improvements to the Orangeville facility were fabu- lous for the Spring Classic and holding the Novice Show/Summer Circuit there as well worked out beautifully. The Orangeville Fairgrounds are continuously working with Area3 to improve the existing facility and accommodate our
needs. Summerama celebrated its 25th anniversary and was with out any weather related issues and delays this year. The Area3 Promotional Club is proud to offer such a presti- gious show to our exhibitors. In general all of the shows hosted by Area3 were well attended and successful. We would like to thank everyone who helped out in any way in 2010 members, exhibitors, sponsors and volunteers. Plans are underway for the 2011 sea- son. The banquet and AGM will be held in February watch for details at

Get Your Paperwork Done Cheaper
The American Quarter Horse Association offers a $15 fee for multiple transfers and extends a reduced rate on reg- istrations for American Quar- ter Horses 3 years and older.
America’s Horse - If you’ve had the paperwork laying around for a couple of years on your American Quarter Horse and just never got around to getting it registered or trans- ferred into your name, now is the time to preserve the pedi- gree of your treasured equine friend.
The American Quarter Horse Association is extending its offer of reduced registration fees for horses 3 and older. Normally, the fee for register- ing a 3-year-old is $550 and the fee for horses over the age of 4 is $1,000. AQHA’s reduced rate is $300, and that offer is good until December 31, 2011. If your horse is reg- istered, but his registration cer- tificate is not in your name, you can have that paperwork updated for only $15 per horse regardless of how many times he or she has been sold. Nor- mally, there would be a $15 charge for every time the horse changed hands and the transfer paperwork wasn’t completed. The charge is $50 for non- members.
be determined on a case-by- case basis.
With this $15 transfer offer, completed and signed transfer forms from each previ- ous owner are still needed along with the original Certifi- cate of Registration, but the fee is a low, one-time charge of $15 for members. Nonmem- bers can take advantage of the $15 transfer offer by joining AQHA for only $35.

This is your chance to brag to your friends and say, “I’ve got an American Quarter Horse and I’ve got the papers to prove it.”
Please we need the members input at the AGM, offer your thoughts, concerns and hopefully yourself as a director or volunteer.

Secretariat
An American Quarter Horse with triple-crown talent is show- cased in this month’s issue of America’s Horse.
The movie “Secretariat,” which was released in theaters in early October, is the story of perhaps the greatest Thoroughbred racehorse ever. But an American Quarter Horse helps tell the tale. In the October issue of America’s Horse, movie wrangler Rusty Hendrickson tells of Copper Locks, a racing American Quarter Horse who is used in some of the movie’s scenes when Secretariat has to show quick bursts of speed passing other horses on the track.
“Running Quarter Horses are much better at that than the Thoroughbreds,” Rusty says of the quick speed. “They’re sprint- ers.”
Copper Locks is a 4-year-old chestnut gelding whose white markings resembled those of Secretariat, and his dam, the Thor- oughbred Lip Locked, is a great-granddaughter of Bold Ruler, the famous sire of Secretariat. Copper Locks was bred by Alvin “Bubba” Brossette, AQHA’s all-time leading jockey by number of wins, and he won his last out for Bubba, an 870-yard claiming race at Evangeline Downs in Louisiana.
Two of Rusty’s other American Quarter Horses, Plumb Twisted and Drifts Wood, make appearances in the movie as pony horses.
However, to take advan- tage of either of these reduced- price offers, all of the paper- work needs to be in order, meaning other requirements of registration must still be met. In the case of registering a horse that’s 3 years old or older, if the application is com- plicated, AQHA might have to charge a nonrefundable $100 complex transaction fee in addition to the registration fee. This will typically be done when AQHA’s registration department must handle multi- ple generations of horses to get the horse registered, or if a DNA type has to be built for horses that are no longer avail- able for DNA typing. This will
Get your paperwork done quicker by bringing it all to one of the remaining AQHA events near you this year! AQHA offers onsite services at all of the AQHA Regional Championships held around the United States and Europe, the Adequan Select World Championship Show in late August in Amarillo, the Bank of America Amateur and Fedex Open World Champi- onship Show in November in Oklahoma City, and the Wran- gler National Finals Rodeo in December in Las Vegas.
