42/ SEPTEMBER 2010 THE RIDER 2010 OEF Annual Conference – A learning experience for all
“The most important lesson I ever learned about flying changes came from a reiner. I never really understood the importance of a circle until I had the chance to ride an upper level dressage horse and the impor- tance of riding confidently out- side the show ring came from
my experience on the trail” (Susan Legge, 2010 OEF Con- ference Chair)
When we start competing we often times find ourselves wearing blinders when it comes to the other disciplines around us. We can find ourselves frus- trated and disappointed when the
“usual” just isn’t working but how many take the time to look outside the box and see if that local dressage coach can help tighten up and balance that roll back for you?
The 2010 OEF conference is featuring a 1 day multi-disci- pline workshop that will focus
on the advantages and impor- tance of a multi-discipline approach to training and commu- nication with your equine part- ner.
The clinic features Peter Gray (Eventing), Hyde Moffett (Hunter/Jumpers), Lindsay Grice (Western Performance) and
Jacqueline Brooks (Dres- sage) along with 16 horse/rider combinations made up of OEF junior members that will demon- strate just how a different disciplines approach can help. Hosted by Schleese Saddlery Services, a lunch time presentation will focus on the impor- tance of choosing the right saddle for you, your horse, and the discipline your participating in to improve your connection and communication. Each clinician will have the opportunity to work with 4 horse/rider combinations in order to help them better their communication, develop their partnership and
work on exercising to lead them to their goals. The other clinicians will offer tips and suggestions based on their own expe- riences and disciplines to help those riders.
No matter your goals, from the recre- ational rider looking to build confidence out on the trials, the student interested in new disci- plines or the competitor looking for help getting to that next level, there is something everyone can learn from this clinic. For further informa- tion and registration please visit the OEF web- site (
