Welcome to the final push of the season bar- rel racers. As I have a habit of saying lately, we’re down to the nitty, “we’re down to the grit- ty” on the 2010 Ontario Barrel Racing season, but we’re are extremely pleased to report that we are saving the best for last!


Planning was well underway for the com- bined Eastern Canadian Barrel Futurities and OBRA finals at Fletcher’s Horse World in Water- ford October 15 to 17. The show will feature four open 4D runs over three days in addition to the $5,000 added ECBF finals and a derby for last season’s ECBF futurity horses.


OBRA is adding $6,000 to the finals, meaning all told, there will be $13,000 up for grabs in addition to more than $3,000 in prizes to our finals winners. That means our finals will be pre- senting more than $16,000 in cash and awards this year! You don’t want to miss what is shaping up to be the premiere barrel event in Ontario this season.


Stonecroft Equine Health and Wellness Farm, recently welcomed Jessys Lil Treasure, a seven-year-old chestnut gelding to their barn. Dr. Bob and Debbie Folkard report he is fitting in well, spending his days in the field with Mark the Jet. They send a special thanks to Chris, Richard, Bonnie and Angela for their time and care in helping make it possible for Jessy to become a part of their family. Not to forget, they also thank Michelle Baker for accepting, and trusting them to take care of Jessy.

Darlene Jackson, as many of you know, suf- fered an injury in a freak accident at her trailer at the members show in Erin. She would like to thank everyone that helped out she and Mick at the show. Blackstock Ford Barrel Bonanza Rescheduled show at Erin Fairgrounds Sat., Aug. 14, 2010


Competitors should note that there is limited stalling at the finals. We only have approximately 120 stalls available and they will be assigned on an first come, first served format with your entry forms. So the earlier you sign up, the better chance you stand of getting a stall. Stalls will be booked automatically for VIP members first, and then preference will be given to the indoor stalls at the main arena based on the order entry forms are received. Outdoor stalls at the main pen will be next and then upper barn stalls at the back of the property will be assigned last. Carol Crane will be numbering entry forms as they come in. We will attempt to secure off-property stalling at nearby farms and these will possibly be available to late entries at rates set by the barn owners. Finals stalls will be $90 on the grounds including HST and that includes one bag of shav- ings. Extra shavings will be available for pur- chase at a cost of $6 a bag. For VIPs, stalls will be $65 including one bag of shavings. By the time you read this, entry forms and more information on stall bookings can be found on the OBRA website, www.obra.ca. OBRA would like to welcome two new year- end sponsors on board this month. Heather Kos- mowski and the Rejcs for stepping up and becoming our year-end sponsors for the brand new (and very successful) Rookie Barrels class this season. Our Rookie Champion is officially now going to be winning a saddle for taking the title and reserve will be awarded a belt buckle thanks to them.

There are a total of 41 registered rookies run- ning this season at OBRA shows with the class often attracting 15 or more competitors at a time! Thanks also to Tina DiBartolo for coming on board as our Youth Reserve Champion belt buck- le sponsor and to Brooks Feeds Inc. for sponsor- ing our 2010 Youth Championship saddle. The youth 2D champion this season will be presented a belt buckle too thanks to Kevin and Rose Twin- er and their sponsorship.


That means we have now secured seven sad- dles and eight belt buckles for our year-end champions. The only class left right now in need of a $1,000 sponsor for a saddle and buckles is our Pole Bending class.
