Happy New Year, and Happy New Decade to all our new Burnley readers, and thank you for your emails and letters in reaction to our first Burnley edition delivered in December. They were all very complementary, from people who seem to enjoy our attempt at humour and spreading a bit of cheer. But we did get a disturbing message on our answerphone from one lady in Harle Syke who was unhappy at the heat loss when our delivery man left her copy sticking out of the letterbox. Oops! Sorry. Anyway, here we are again with another edition, full of cultural and educational rubbish, surrounded by a few silly pictures and some very old jokes, but it seems to be a popular formula as we are getting bigger every month. So what delights are in this month’s edition ? Well, a few articles are looking back over the last decade. Where did it go? It doesn’t seem a minute since we were all excited about the fantastic new millennium dome in London !!! What do you remember about the last 10 Years ? Unfortunately most of the strongest memories are about disasters and atrocities as we reflect on pages 18 & 19. But one over - riding, positive memory is winning the “Ashes.” Twice. Grumpy Git is looking forward to what could be in store for us over the next decade, on page 6. Janet, our intrepid fishing lady writer is looking forward to the spring on page 12. Carol, our hardware correspondent, reflects on the poor quality cuisine at the New Wembley Stadium, on page 23, and we have two fascinating articles on page 21, about how the Frisbee developed from chucking pie tins, and why I had to fire my secretary.
