Wendy Richard, MBE Died 26 February 2009 aged 66. She was an English actress best known for playing Miss Brahms in Are You Being Served? and Pauline Fowler in EastEnders. She died at the Harley Street clinic where she was being treated for a third bout of breast cancer. Wendy also had a bit part in a 1965 episode ("Don't Nail Him Yet") of Danger Man with Patrick McGoohan, who also died this year. Patrick Joseph McGoohan Died January 13, aged 81.An American-born actor, raised in Ireland and England, with an extensive stage and film career, most notably in the 1960s television series Danger Man and The Prisoner. McGoohan wrote and directed several episodes of The Prisoner himself, occasionally using the pseudonyms Joseph Serf and Paddy Fitz. He subsequently appeared in David Cronenberg's Scanners, and in Mel Gibson's Braveheart as Edward Longshanks. Jade Goody. Died March 22. The 27-year-old, who rose to fame through Channel 4's Big Brother, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in August. Max Clifford defended Goody's decision to "die in the public eye". He told Sky News: "What she said to me was simply this - 'I'm doing this for three reasons, one: because I want to make as much money as possible for my children, two: because it keeps me busy, it gives me something to think about other than cancer, and what's going to happen to me,' and three: since last August when she announced she had cancer, the amount of women having cervical smears has gone up over 20% right across Britain and that's something she's very happy about. David Carradine - Died June 4 Onscreen Kung Fu master and Kill Bill star David Carradine was found dead in his hotel room in Bangkok. The beloved Oscar-nominated actor was there working on a movie. Reports claim that a hotel maid found David, 72, in a closet with a rope around his neck and body. Michael Jackson - Died June 25 The King of Pop, died in LA at the age of 50. Michael suffered a cardiac arrest at his home and paramedics were quickly called. The singer was taken to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre only to be pronounced dead. In the weeks leading up to his untimely death, he was busy preparing for another comeback tour scheduled to kick off in England. Farrah Fawcett - Died June 25 Actress/model Farrah Fawcett lost her three year battle with cancer at the young age of 62. Best known for her role as one of the gorgeous agents of Charlie's Angels, Farrah was well liked by everyone in the industry. Her long time partner Ryan O'Neal told People, "She's gone. She now belongs to the ages. I loved her with all my heart. I will miss her so very, very much. She's in a better place now." Sir Robert William "Bobby" Robson. Died 31 July. Manager of seven European clubs and the England national team, taking England to the semi-final of the 1990 World Cup. ( The Maradona, hand of God, incident.) From 1991 onwards he suffered recurrent medical problems with cancer, and in August 2008, his lung cancer was confirmed to be terminal; he said: "My condition is described as static and has not altered since my last bout of chemotherapy...I am going to die sooner rather than later. But then everyone has to go sometime and I have enjoyed every minute". He died just under a year later. Guitar legend Les Paul, Died August 13 He was instrumental in developing the solid-body electric guitar and multitrack recording, died at age 94 of complications from pneumonia. His guitars became the standard instrument for major stars such as Pete Townshend and Jimmy Page. Les even earned himself an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Actor Patrick Swayze died September 14,at the young age of 57. In March of 2008, we learned that Patrick was battling pancreatic cancer but that he also had every intention of fighting it. That heroic fight ended when the cancer claimed his life. The three-time Golden Globe nominee will forever be remembered for his role as Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing. Margaret 'Maggie' Jones Died 2 December. An English actress, best known for playing Blanche Hunt in Coronation Street, a role which she first portrayed in 1974 and played reg- ularly from the late 1990s until shortly before her death. Her first television role came in 1961 when she appeared in one episode of Coronation Street as a policewoman. Several years later, she made another guest appearance as a shoplifter. However, it was in 1974 that she appeared for the first time as Blanche Hunt, the mother of Deirdre.
