The Social Network Social Network trailer 2010
Well let’s face it; it was inevitable that eventually there would be a film released about good old -‘what would we do without it’ facebook!! The inception of facebook originally derived from a spawned heart of a broken man due to his girlfriend dumping him at the coveted university of Harvard of all places! This theme of a broken heart seems to run throughout
the whole film as whenever there is a pivotal moment in the development of the business it always seems to be as a result of a further breakdown between the main character and his former girlfriend. Whilst his grief gets him into huge amounts of trouble at college it simultaneously opens up new doors for both the main character and his cohort. Consequently, they become
part of a team with twins also schooling at Harvard. How- ever, the lead actor (played by Jessie Eisenberg) possibly inspired by the twins, dreams up another way to connect students together but extends the geographical boundaries somewhat. This again, leads him and (Andrew Garfield playing Eduardo Saverin) his partner in crime, to the initial threat of a law suit until they
somehow come to a ‘Harvard Gentleman’s agreement.’ Following this, the two man crew become status symbols in their university for their success at distributing what was known at the time as The Facebook and once again the inspiration behind the two gets his heart broken as he bumps into his ex-girlfriend by chance and discovers that she has no idea what he has been up to since their split. This was like a red rlag to a bull and spurs him on to perfect his plan to have complete world domination. This is a powerfully engaging film on all levels; those that just simply can’t live without facebook and want to know if there is perhaps some other feature in this amazing medium that they have yet to uncover or perhaps to quash the sceptics that can’t quite see how a film about social networking could possible captivate an audience for longer than ten minutes or maybe it’s simply that
somebody out there has missed the cute features of Mr Justin Timberlake – whatever the reason, this film is simply, not to be missed!!! Word by Kym Small
