The group members were mainly in black, apart from ‘Sisqo’ who had a shiny silver cap on … just to be different and of course subtly telling the people watching who was the lead member! The new mem- ber ‘Tao’ certainly didn’t let the new ‘Dru Hill’ down, his singing was top notch and he blended in like a true star that had been involved from the start. ‘Jazz’s’ singing voice stood out as the strongest in the group, the one with the most range and hitting the most ‘wow’ notes. It had a real soul flava to it, which truly made it shine in a league of its own. At times he would stand separately from the rest of the group and belt out solo vocals. It was as if the physical separa- tion represented his individual vocal strength and style that was different and separate from the voices of the other band members. ‘Sisqo’s’ cha- risma was clearly visible with his stage presence and body language and he had the audi- ence gripped through out the whole ‘Dru Hill’ experience … with of course the help of his shiny bright cap! The group as a whole gelled well together on stage with vibrant group chemistry between one another
whilst they sang and rapped, moving around the stage with comfort and confidence. They each individually owned the stage. In particular our little ‘Big Brother’ star ‘Sisqo’ who is the true leader of the group had the whole ‘stage presence’ thing in the bag! He has the longest and most regular raps to perform in their songs, which helps him stay in the main focus. He com- mands songs physically with his energetic moves delivered with such ease. And vocally his unique sound is effortless and consistently in perfect tune at all times, as if he was born a star! His small size certainly contradicts with his BIG voice! The second tune that they sang was from the new album and was called ‘Back to the future’ it was unfamiliar as it was new to the audience however it still gripped all in the arena not loosing their attention at any point.
They performed ‘How Deep is your love’, which is by far one of their best ever tracks made. ‘Sisqo’s’ rapid singing style on this tune really is one of his most special moments, riding the tune like nothing could hold him back. They then performed
various tunes including … ‘Pret- ty Brown Eyes’ where ‘Sisqo’ stepped up for a solo interlude and then each member had a solo piece that followed, ‘5 steps’, ‘You are Everything’, etc. Which kept the crowd hyped and reminiscing until the end of the night.
On a more serious note, in between the talented acts that the evening had to offer the host of the concert ‘Calvin Harris’ brought on the father of ‘Daniel De Gale’. The father did a speech on stage to improve people’s awareness on Leu- kaemia and the company that he has been working with for 15 years, called ACLT – African Community Leukaemia Trust
www.aclt.org.uk. His son ‘Daniel De Gale’, was buried 2 years to the day of the concert, his death was caused by Leukaemia. Donations were made throughout the night … including £150 from Jay the promoter of the event.
After a fantastic journey down memory lane with a small insight into the new things com- ing up next for ‘Dru Hill’ it was time to go home …. All the ‘Dru Hill’ fans began their journey
