24 October 2010 19:00 - 23:00 Dj Barbara Be review
From the outside of the ‘Indigo’ arena at the ‘O2 Centre’ on Sunday 24th October ‘Dru Hill’ fans were hyped up in guest list and ticket queues anxiously hovering. This being the first time that ‘Dru Hill’ fans would have seen the band perform anywhere since 1998. The True ‘Dru Hill’ lovers however rolled in just before their performance started. Filling up an area at the back of the arena that up until then had been empty. Arriving just in time before they went on, like clock-work!
‘Calvin Francis’ hosted the event with other DJ’s making guest appearances throughout the varying supporting acts. He kept the night smooth and upbeat throughout, with his
sarcastic and comical dialogue.
As soon as you walked into the event you couldn’t help but move your feet to the old skool
one that sang. He was a strong vocalist. There didn’t seem to be any weak points in the performance. They performed five tracks all written by themselves, a couple of which
spinning the backing on the decks. She then ended her slot with a fantastic goose pimple ‘Alicia Keys’ cover. Her voice had a wide range and was strong throughout the whole tune. You couldn’t help but notice her incredible
singing talent at this point. The last song was flawless. I think even ‘Simon Cowell’ would have agreed! ‘Calvin Francis’ commented on ‘Crystal’s’ exit… ‘I like a girl who’s got a walk with attitude … and that girls got a walk with attitude!’
beat! ‘Calvin’ was dropping some old skool R’n’B/Hip Hop/ Soul to get the audience in the mood for our old Hip-Hop stars from back in the day.
Up first was ‘Trooper’, they had strong clever/funny lyrics with a confident and powerful flow consistent with the deep baseline provided on the night by ‘DJ Neil’. The group consisted of UK rappers, with
being, ‘Every time I close my eyes’ and ‘Big Belly Tune.’
The second act was ‘Crystal Celebrity’. Her eye-catching dress certainly suited her stage name … with its shiny silver sequins making her stand out and sparkle like a true glitzy star. She performed her own songs first and was
accompanied by a couple of urban dancers with ‘DJ Darks’
The next act was ‘Dele Akinz’ singer/songwriter/performer from East London… he introduced his performance for the night with an accapella cover of ‘Millionaire.’ His voice was smooth and confident immediately showing the ‘Dru Hill’ fans that he was big in the game. This was the first act that livened the audience up and got some audience participation. His two male dancers were brilliant. The three of them danced with sharp precise moves in perfect harmony with the clear breaks in the tunes beats. They even teased the girlies with a striptease; ‘Dele’ commented
