Kix: You seem to rap to any kind of beat mainly ‘Hip Hop’ and ‘Grime’ … did your passion for music begin with ‘Garage’? Marvell: (Shocka) Yeah, we started from ‘Garage’. (Double S) We used to listen to ‘So Solid’, ‘Heartless Crew’, that’s what we grew up from. Then eventually we just thought to ourselves we can do this as well lets try it. It was an idea at first then we just made it come to light.
Kix: Yeah like sometimes you think things are too difficult to do and then you start doing them and you’re like actually I thought that was impossible and it’s not that hard? Marvell: (Double S) Nothing is ever impossible as long as you see it inside here (he points to his head) you can bring it to light. It’s just that you shouldn’t be scared to. Some people are scared and they think ahhh what if people think ‘this and that’ of me but you shouldn’t be scared you should just do it…. (Vertex) Because we got belief that kind of helped us, its what we needed really.
Kix: What are the next plans for
‘Marvell Crew?’ Marvell: Right about now we’re working on an album. We’ve got a lot of stuff in store to be honest … 2011 is gonna be a hot year.
Kix: What’s the album called? Marvell: (Double S) Can’t tell you, no I’m joking! (smiling) … (Shocka) No, we can … (Double S) It’s called ‘The World is Ours’ .. (Shocka) Not in a big headed way, it was meant to be called ‘The World is Yours’ but we just took off the ‘Y’ so it was ‘Ours’ instead, we’re just implying that it could be ‘Yours’ as well.
Kix: Which producer in the UK or USA would you like to work with most? Marvell: (Double S) Right now we’re working with the best producer, well I thinks so anyway …. the best producer over here, his name is ‘SX’, he’s from Waltherhampton. He’s the guy that made the ‘Woo Rhythm’ that every single grime MC is dropping lyrics on. In the US, ‘Timberland’, ‘Swizz Beats’, (Shocka) there’s so many … ‘Kanye West’ …. (Double S) Hopefully, on the second album (he laughs).
Kix: I believe you’ve been inspired by artists such as ‘Dizzee’, ‘Kano’, ‘Heartless’ … Is there one particular rapper/ artist or even person in your lives who has inspired you the most? Marvell: (All) ‘Lil Wayne’ … yeah ‘Lil Wayne’ .. (Double S) ‘Drake’.
Kix: Am I right in thinking you produce your own music videos? Marvell: (Double S) Yeah that’s this guy here (hand gestures to Vertex).
Kix: Do you do all the music videos? Marvell: (Vertex) Yeah, yeah I do.
Kix: What do you prefer … a night in front of the TV or night out in a club? Marvell: (Shocka) If I said a night in front of the TV I’d be lying.
(Double S) I’d be lying too … but we don’t really rave. I’d rather be writing a song that will make me a million pounds then spend money on going out and wake up in the morning thinking what am I gonna hear about!
