for an extended period of time and that’s a good thing, I think.

10. Where are you the weakest? Oh, you know – actual Ultimate-related skills like throwing.

11. Do you four get along? If not.... Who’s the biggest jerk? :-) Or have you all grown up now and there’s less drama, and more camaraderie? Probably pretty safe to say that I fill the role of “biggest jerk” of the four of us. That’s what Big Brothers are for, isn’t it?

12. Are you doing anything to overcome your weakness? If so... What? Yeah, I’ve worked pretty hard over the past couple of years on expanding my game so I can help our team in whatever area we need it the most. In the winter I am in the gym 4-5 days a week in an attempt to keep up with the young guys, and in the summer I work on various throws as much as possible.

13. What gets you in game mode? Music? Cheers? The look in your teammate’s eyes? The quest for gold? What? Just knowing I’m getting a chance to compete is all I need to get me going. I’m a bit of a competition junkie and really thrive on venues where I can really push myself as hard as possible to win.

14. How are you finding the travel to tournaments? Tired of it? Counting the days? Personally – I don’t love travelling – kind of been there, done that over the years with work. But, in terms of Ultimate, I much prefer tournaments we need to travel to by car because it really provides an opportunity for the team to bond together and focus collectively for those few days on the task at hand without outside distractions

15. What championships have you won? Nada We’re not shy about our goals and we really feel that we let it get away from us last year in Winnipeg.

16. Which ones have you not won?....And are you holding out until you win them? We want to win CUC. Qualifying for UPA

Championships in Sarasota is another key goal that our team is working towards.

17. What do you most like about the game? ie, if you are a handler, does that give you the rush? Or the flow? Or the layouts? Or the d-blocks? What do you enjoy the most? Overall – just having the avenue to compete is the top attraction for me to Ultimate. My favorite scenario within the game is playing man-to-man defense in the lane against the other team’s primary cutter. Knowing he wants and expects to make a play and that his team will trust him enough throw to him, and that my team is counting on me to do something to change the flow of the game…..I play pretty much for those situations.

18. Do you listen to music prior to the game? If so, what bands or singers, and why? Never – I find it distracting – I want to immerse myself in the team warm-up and focus on throwing and getting my body ready to play.

19. Gotta ask......Who’s the best of the four of you? Definitely me!! Seriously though, I think we all play quite different roles and styles on the field and can envision situations where each of us would be “best suited”. That being said, I think it’s fairly well accepted amongst most people in the know that Derek is the best player – I’m just a little too stubborn to accept it, that’s all!

20. On that same note, is one of you better at one thing than the other? Do you each of strengths (better vertical, better handler, more consistent D?) Ken is the best natural athlete because he can jump and run as well as anyone I have ever seen – making him nearly impossible to cover in the lane when he puts his mind to it. Derek is ridiculously flexible allowing him to throw quickly from the splits, thus breaking the mark at will. Bill is physically very strong and is one of the most consistent players on the team. I am clearly the oldest – I’m good at being old.
