PRESS RELEASE

Rotary supports Hall Mead School’s Kenya Project Hornchurch, Essex 5th November 2008

With the support of the Rotary Foundation (Rotary’s own charity) members of the Rotary Club of Hornchurch and Upminster donated £1,000 to Kids Alive International to purchase books for a school in Kenya for children orphaned by HIV/Aids. Pupils from Hall Mead School in Upminster travelled to Kenya on a project to work in the Kenyan school which has been named ‘Hall Mead Academy’ in recognition of the connection and support given by the Upminster school for its African counterpart in recent years.

The donation is part of the Rotary Club’s longstanding connection with Hall Mead School and, more recently, with Kids Alive International. Colin Freeman, a former President of the Rotary Club said ‘education is a key focus for Rotary internationally and this project ticks all the boxes helping both the orphaned children in Kenya but also the Hall Mead kids to un- derstand first hand what everyday life is like for those considerably less fortunate’. Freeman continued ‘these books will form the basis of a library at the Kenyan school that we hope will be a lasting legacy for many years’.

A recent Ofsted inspection report specifically commended Hall Mead for its connection with Kids Alive for the positive impact it has on the Upminster pupils.
