OCTOBER 8, 2008 A
DATALINK AT THE QUEEN’S HOSPITAL
lec Stewart, ‗The Gaffer‘ and MBE/OBE, who captained
the England Cricket team to vic- tory against South Africa in 1998, joined Rotarian Dave Goodhill at the Datalink stand today to help promote this potentially life saving scheme.
T
he Datalink scheme, in- tended for the elderly or peo-
ple living on their own, is simplicity itself - a specially labelled bottle, containing a person‘s details of all medicines they take, is stored in their refrigerator, and clearly indi- cated on refrigerator door by a green cross. So the location of the Datalink bottle is immediately recognized by paramedics called in an emergency, and so enables them to take immediate and ap- propriate action.
T
he Rotary Club of Hornchurch & Upminster be-
came involved with the scheme as a distribution link between the Li- ons Club of Havering and the emergency services, doctors‘ sur- geries, pharmacies and relevant organisations.
13 T
his scheme, with the enthusi- astic help of the Queen‘s
Hospital, Romford, has now been extended to involve all three Ro- tary Clubs in Havering – Romford Rotary Club and Havering East Rotary Club – as well as the Hornchurch & Upminster Club. Once a month at the Queen‘s Hospital, members of all three Clubs provide bottles and information about the scheme and about Rotary itself to the many pa- tients, and their friends and rela- tives, visiting the hospital.
