his time into the cen- tre of the city of Trier,
the oldest city in Germany and still celebrating its Ro- man history: once the capital of the western half of the Roman Empire and acknowledging probably its most famous emperor, Constantine, who finally, recognising that he could not beat their increas- ing number, de- clared his accep- tance of Christian- ity. We enjoyed a guided tour starting with a view on high and then down to see the Amphitheatre, Imperial Ro- man Baths, Triumphal Porta Nigra and the multi functional Basilica. After

to prove the highlight of our visit. Our good friends, again
in great strength, had invited us to join them in their regu- lar club meeting. We enjoyed a super meal along with wine. All the ta- bles had a good mix from both our clubs. This was a real op- portunity to deepen our friendship and increase our mutual under-
standing. President Raj thanked President Bern- hard Buss for his club‘s generous hospitality and presented as a token of our gratitude a pair of crystal decanters to- gether with some port wine. Eddie thanked the Hermeskeil Club for enter-

ing into a warm partner- ship and in particular for allowing us to join in their very own Brasilian Street Kids‘ project. He praised in particular the spe- cial efforts of Hans and Andreas. We had been deeply saddened to learn of Andreas‘ need to move professionally out of the area fol- lowing his recently developed allergy. It
was hoped that our two clubs could move forward and join to- gether in other fulfilling international projects. We also extended a warm invita- tion to our
Hermeskeil friends to visit Hornchurch and Upminster in the forthcoming year. Geoff then humorously produced an old guide book from the early sixties which reminded everyone of what you could pur- chase in those ―good old days‖ for very little money.

quickly to an end. We parted with deep thanks again to our good friends.
he next day we en- joyed an early walk
through the vineyards, made our way slowly back along the Mosel valley, vis- iting briefly Bernkastel, lunching in Traben and then headed back to Hahn and home.
