year 6 induction 2009-what an event
Quotes of the event:
Most memorable moment was fitting 8 of us into a box in the playground to have our lunch
My favourite tournament was the long jump; it was like a leap of faith! Just keep the standards as high as they are! Absolutely brilliant!- Thanks to the wonderful staff who looked after my son so well. (parent of a Tamil boy)
God bless the school! parent 12

ABOUT INDUCTION WEEK
In July 2009 the school held the biggest and most ambitious induction event ever for our future Year 7 students. We feel passionately about providing the best possible experience for the Year 6 pupils scheduled to join us in September so that they feel safe, happy, motivated and excited at the prospect of starting a new level of learning at secondary school. There is no reason for any primary school pupil to feel daunted at the prospect of going to ‘big school’, providing we do our duty to inform, prepare well, support and nurture the pupils and parents every step of the way, and to use all data available to us to plan and provide the best start for every pupil. We work collaboratively with our local feeder schools, especially with Year 5 and 6 pupils, and hope to start working with even younger age groups next year. To date our Science, Design Technology and Creative arts faculties have either gone to work on projects at primary schools or alternatively we have been visited over the years by hundreds of pupils to participate in Saturday clubs, holiday workshops and trips, conferences, and to watch our impressive annual school productions. The aim is that every year 6 should experience a seamless transition across every key subject with only a change in venue to continue their learning and to look forward to the added bonus of Villiers’ outstanding extra-curricular programme for every year group, including our nationally recognised Learning to Learn curriculum, now firmly embedded within the school. Last year with 210 year 6 pupils at Villiers for 3 days, we organised a series of subject based workshops to attend in a carousel. Eleven subjects were covered, with the final day’s afternoon dedicated to the now infamous ‘mini Olympics’ tournament! A survey went out to all pupils and parents to find out what worked, and what we can do differently or even better next time. This is what we learned: Tour of school by year 9 ambassadors, was it useful? – 91% said extremely, Having 2 Positive Behaviour Mentors – 60% said they felt safer and happy to have someone to turn to if they needed to. Most popular subject workshops : Science and Food Technology - joint 1st! Drama – 2nd ICT – 3rd Reason for this - liked the teacher (80%) or learning something new, Biggest memory – Mini Olympics
Favourite events – football and long jump joint favourites.. •100% reported they would recommend Villiers to any year 6!
