Forums ABU Developing Broadcasters’ Forum
The ABU Developing Broadcasters’ Forum meets during the TC meeting and addresses a range of issues, specific needs and challenges of our developing broadcasters to prepare them for the digital broadcast environment. Tharaka Mohotty of MTV-Sri Lanka chairs the Developing Broadcasters’ Forum.
The main recommendations on training of member broadcasters in new technologies and digital implementation for this year were:

• Training on Satellite News Gathering Systems • Training on Video archiving and Library Management Systems • Broadcast Automation Systems Training • IPTV Systems • Digital Radio implementations
ABU Digital Radio Forum
Asaad Bagharib of MediaCorp Singapore chairs the ABU Digital Radio Forum which comprises digital radio experts and digital radio system proponents from the industry. It aims to keep ABU members informed of developments in digital radio. At its Bali meeting, a recommendation was made to digital radio manufacturers to provide 18 kHz IF filter bandwidth to take advantage of SCS and stereo transmission in medium wave. The programme for the year includes:
• Further work in the DAB+ Task Force • Closely follow the DR implementation in Australia • Development of parameters for 18 kHz digital receivers and full stereo in MW • Enhancements in membership • Joint events with DRM, WorldDMB Forum, HD Radio and ARIB (Japan)

ABU HD Advisory Group
The HD Advisory Group provides advice to the TC and ABU members on crucial issues that pertain to HDTV and its potential implementation by broadcasters. Yeo Kim Pow of MediaCorp-Singapore chairs the Group which maintains a watching brief on HDTV developments within the region and outside.
The Advisory Group prepares technical reports to assist members needing advice on the introduction of HDTV broadcast.
