Technical Meetings


Technical Committee


The Technical Committee (TC), comprising representatives of the technical departments of ABU members, meets each year prior to the General Assembly. The TC reviews technical studies and activities and addresses administrative matters. At these meetings members are provided with opportunities to participate in technical workshops, forum meetings and invited presentations. The ABU Engineering Excellence Awards are announced and the Technical Review Prizes are presented during the meeting. The TC also reviews activities of the TD being conducted on behalf of and for the benefit of the members. The 2008 TC was held in Bali, Indonesia.


Technical Bureau


The Technical Bureau, which comprises 15 members representing all categories of member broadcasters in the region, meets twice each year. The first meeting, which takes place in conjunction with the TC, assesses activities proposed for the ensuing year, in terms of relevance to members and the industry as a whole. The mid-year (second) meeting reviews progress achieved to date and makes course corrections, if necessary.


The Bureau supervises the ABU technical activities on behalf of the TC in the period between the TC meetings.


Decisions taken by the Bureau:


• Fifteen project groups in the Spectrum Area were split into two groups, Spectrum-WRC Issues and Spectrum – ABU Issues.


• Four key technical activities for 2009 and 2010 were selected.


• The duration of the TC and all associated meetings was restricted to three days.


• The main emphasis of the presentations at the TC should be on issues and not on technologies.
