RE-BRANDING REFLECTS RENEWED COMMITMENT TO SCOTTISH BASE Introduction T 30
he Scottish Salmon Company – formerly Lighthouse Caledonia – is Scotland’s largest independ- ent salmon farming business, produc- ing around 20 per cent of the country’s output – approximately 20,000 tonnes a year.
With headquarters in Edinburgh, it has farms throughout the Hebrides and the west coast of Scotland. Currently em- ploying around 250 people, this number is set to rise significantly in the coming months as the company continues to pur- sue an ambitious growth strategy. Tracing its origins back to 1986, the company has developed over the past 25
years through a number of amalgama- tions and mergers that have brought to- gether the best of the country’s expertise and experience. These have strengthened the company’s position as Scotland’s largest independent salmon farming business.
Following the appointment of a new Board of Directors in 2009, the com- pany has gone from strength to strength – providing high-quality farmed salmon to local, national and international markets, priding itself on using meticu- lous husbandry and traditional methods to produce the highest quality Scottish salmon. The company is also firmly em- bedded in the rural communities in which
it operates and has the utmost respect for the pristine waters and environment surrounding its operations.
Launch of SSC
The Scottish Salmon Company began trading in July 2010 and has been re- named to build on the premium reputa- tion of Scotland and Scottish salmon. In the words of Chief Executive, Mike Corbett: ‘The Scottish Salmon Company brand fully reflects the ethos and culture of our company. It highlights our respect for the quality of Scottish produce and the fact we are an independent Scottish company, as well as the integral role we play in the rural communities in which we work.
