Waukewan Ladies Persevere Despite Mid 90 Temperatures
It was hot but thankfully
a light breeze was blowing. Everyone was happy to enjoy a cool drink and wel- comed snacks provided by the teams of Torrid Pines and Harbour Townies. President Carolyn Koczera began the awards with the “chip-in” contest win- ners. Gerry McGillicuddy chipped in on hole # 1 and Lorraine Levalliere on #9. Their balls landed on the fringe allowing them to use their putters for their “chip”. Shirley Monis and Jane Pillsbury added their names to the Birdie Tree. Shirley earned her birdie on # 5 which is a 205 yard par 4 which dog legs left. The elevated green slopes down toward the fairway. Shirley put her second shot four feet from the pin and sunk the downhill putt. Jane’s Birdie was on #2 which is a 300 yard par 4 hole. She used her 5 hybrid out of the rough on the left side and banked it nicely onto the green, roll- ing it 6 feet from the pin.

Shirley Monis earned
more honors by using her 5 wood to place her shot 11 feet 5 ½ inches from the pin on # 3 to win clos- est to the pin. The other two contests this week involved counting putts. Gerry McGillicuddy won in the 18 and below handicap group with 14 putts and Kelly Dunn and Bobbe Fairman were awarded their prizes for the 19 and above handicappers with 15 putts each. Bobbe Fairman added to her win- nings by having her ticket pulled as the 50/50 win- ner!
Substitute Nina Tal-
bot led the 50 and un- der scores with a 45 fol- lowed by Jane Pillsbury and Kathy Sweeney with 47, Carol Ashton, Gerry McGillicuddy and Lynn Allen with 48 and Laurie Fox, Val Langbehn and Linda Ridlon with 50. Good playing despite the tropi- cal heat. Waukewan’s GM Craig Hale donated bottles of water which were in
coolers on the course to keep everyone hydrated. It was much appreciated. It continues to be a tight
race among the teams as the Blue Monsters (Barb Saimond, Jane Flynn, Jackie Paulhaus, Alice
