on. It would take about 3 million dollars to buy it and get it just the way we want it,” K said with a smile. “It would be great to find a philanthropist who wants to help us out.” K believes that all things

are possible when it comes to the good work done at Liberty House. In December of 2007,

the Liberty House was in danger of losing its fund- ing as the terms of its agreement with HUD were nearing a close. When Tekla Frates reached out to other artists and per- formers in the area to help raise funds for Liberty House, the first to respond was her own father, Larry Frates. “I’m an artist and performer so I answered the call,” said

Larry. Larry, who runs Frates Creative Arts Center in downtown

Laconia and Riverside Gallery in Gilmanton Iron Works has well over thirty years of experience as a watercolorist, educator, storyteller, caricature artist, puppeteer, magician, children’s television host, actor, and creative consultant. Recently, he has brought out of retirement an alter ego,

Nascimento, magician and storyteller who will perform shows every other Monday until the week before Labor Day to help raise funds for Liberty House. (The next perfor- mance on Monday, July 19th.) The shows take place in the garden at the Riverside Gallery in Gilmanton Iron Works at 12:30pm. Bring a picnic lunch. There is no admission but a $5 donation to help the cause is always appreciated. Larry is also planning a larger show in the fall at the Old

Town hall in Gilmanton where Nascimento will be daz- zling the audience with magic along with the assistance of some of the Welcoming Arms’ pin-up girls and also the On Stage Theatre Company. The planning stage is still in the process. For more on Larry Frates and the Frates Creative Arts Center go to www.fratescreates.com.
