by the Los Angeles Times and “ the genial genius of the guitar” by the Toron- to Star, world-renowned singer, guitar player and bandleader John Pizzarelli and the John Pizzarelli Quartet will perform at the Great Waters Music Festival acoustic tent on Friday, July 19 at 8pm. Son of guitar legend


Bucky Pizzarelli, John started playing the guitar at the age of six. As a young man he had the privilege of performing with a num- ber of jazz greats includ- ing Benny Goodman, Les Paul, Soot Sims and Slam Stewart. He has opened for Dave Brubeck, Ram- sey Lewis and Rosemary Clooney and in 1993 had the privilege of opening for Frank Sinatra’s inter- national tour. In 1997, Pizzarelli made his Broad- way debut in the musical “Dream.” A master in the art of


reinventing jazz classics, Pizzarelli and his quartet will celebrate the music of Duke Ellington on stage and feature music from their most recent CD, re- leased in February, Rock- ing’ and Rhythm. Pizzarelli says that he heard a tre- mendous amount of Duke Ellington’s music listening to his dad, Bucky, play.
