PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Teamwork—It's Up to You

Your vote can help keep homebuilding strong

I

By GHBA President

KEVIN HOLLAND,

Cervelle Homes Inc.

t’s time for us to get out and reward the candidates who have worked for our beliefs. Yes it is time to VOTE.

GHBA members stand united as the building industry’s stakeholder. This organization is one truly focused on the homebuilding industry and those who serve it. Founded in 1941, the Greater Houston Builders Association is one of the oldest, largest and most active builders associations in the nation. Why? It’s because of you. GHBA’s 1,600 members represent all aspects of the residential homebuilding industry, from builders and developers to CPAs and attorneys to appliance and lumber suppliers to warranty and insurance companies. Whatever your connection to the industry, there’s a place for you at GHBA.

Encourage others to join the association, and to vote for the candidates who support our industry. We need people in office who are on our team. Work this theme into your daily conversations and let others know the tremendous value of being a member. You will find most people already know someone in the organization. Use this connection as a stepping stone to build rapport with those individuals. Connections are just one part of the value offered within the association, so share that with others so they can understand the benefits. While we work as a TEAM we have the ability to share knowledge with others that will encourage them to support us at the ballot box. The need to vote today has never been more important.

GHBA’s motto, “Building a Greater Houston,” is really the vision of its members. As a team, we work hard to ensure builders, developers, remodelers

and associates have the tools they need to make Houston and the surrounding areas a greater place. This is accomplished through legislative and regulatory advocacy, education and designation opportunities, all of which keep members informed and better prepared for the ever-changing marketplace. However if we don’t communicate this cherished association to others, we are not being good servants for the cause of “Building a Greater Houston.” Remember, communication is the responsibility of the sender. We can send our message verbally, with our checkbooks and with our vote.

Have you ever heard the expression “it’s not what you know but who”? GHBA has a place for all. We host more than 200 networking opportunities annually, including monthly meetings, golf tournaments, cocktail hours and evenings with candidates. Members receive a printed directory of all its members and are encouraged to use it as the yellow pages for their business. Do business with a member and reap the benefits of a great source of knowledge. Being a member of GHBA offers many avenues to troubleshoot and resolve questions within our industry.

Lastly, if you fail to plan you plan to fail. Truer words have not been spoken. Don’t put your head in the sand and think you can’t make a difference. Show up and get involved because you do make a difference. The TEAMWORK depends on you. Go vote and reward the candidates that have supported you and your values. GHBA’s political action committee, HOME-PAC, releases a list of endorsed candidates for each election. Please refer to this list when making your voting choices. 
