ASSOCIATE COUNCIL NEWS

Breaking Records

Purchasing manager forum brings record crowd of associate attendees

W

ith 145 in attendance in April, the associates set a council record for

the highest attendance in history at a GHBA Associate Council luncheon. We're watching history in the making this year for the Associate Council.

The April lunch topic was “How to Make a Presentation from a Purchasing Manager’s Perspective,” a topic of interest to all associates. The most encouraging advice we learned from our builder panel was to be “persistently patient.” Purchasing managers do not want to hear from you on a daily basis, however, once a month is good.

With the changes in the market that have affected staffing, most homebuilders have gone to single sourcing of their suppliers to save time and money. Be prepared and organized by doing your homework on the builder you are calling on. Spend time on their Web site, visiting models and out in the field talking to the superintendents.

Most builders review pricing on each item they use in a home on average once a year, so do not pass up your opportunity by not being patient, persistent and on top of your game!

Next month’s panel—Lunch wi th Visionaries—is one you will not want to pass up. Scheduled for May 6, we currently have Kurt Watzek of Beazer Homes and Jim Frankel of Frankel Building Group on the agenda, with more builders to come. This event is sure to be another sell-out, so be sure to reserve early. The pen and paper were out at April’s meeting, with associates taking in some really great information. So come prepared to walk out better than you came in.

The lucky winners this month for the December Associate’s Council Bash were Melissa Seureau, better known as “Honey Bee” with Re/Max Realty Center, Nick Lange with Mohawk Industries, and Randy Lutz with BMC Select Building Materials.
