GHBA 1st Quarter Report Card—2010
The GHBA staff is always busy looking for ways to improve members services, advocacy and education. Following is a quick look at what the association has been up to over the last three months.
Education
• GHBA ha s held seven NAHB designation classes with a total of 58 in attendance. • More than 140 people have enrolled in the new Lead Renovation Certification training course. Training has also begun in Friendswood for our BABA members. • Nine people have taken either the BAR or PREP exam—the first step towards earning a professional designation.
Membership
• 150 new members added since Jan. 1. • 450 renewals year-to-date. • Maintained No. 1 ranking of the largest association in Texas and 4th largest association in the country.
Government Affairs
• GHBA staff and members met with the Houston-area congressional delegation and focused conversations on acquisition, development and construction financing. • The GHBA staff is strengthening relationships with the new City of Houston administration and City Council. We're monitoring issues region- wide, and helped pass House Bill 2833 in Fort Bend and Brazoria Counties. • Under the association’s new voluntary green building program, Green Built Gulf Coast (GBGC), the GHBA is now an adopting entity of the National Green Building Standard® ICC 700 – 2008, the only ANSI-approved green building program in the nation.
Communications
• Houston Builder magazine rolled out an online digital edition on January 1, available any time at
www.ghba.org/ houstonbuildermagazine.
• GHBA has joined the social networking world, and currently hosts Facebook
'fan' pages for all of its councils and committees. You can also connect with GHBA on Twitter and LinkedIn. Visit

Special Events & Councils
• At the GHBA Forecast luncheon, Mike Inselmann spoke to 850 guests. 2009 “Of the Year” Awards, Presidential Citations, and GHBA Spike Awards were given.
• Sales and Marketing Councilnetworking
event was held at St. Arnold’s Brewery’s new downtown. location. Attendees included a true cross-section of all GHBA member types.
• Associate Council hosted its 2010 Spring Golf Tournament at Wildcat Golf Club. We had a great turn out, with more than 200 players and 50 sponsorships sold.
• Bay Area Builders AssociationSupport
Our Troops (BABASOT) was recognized for its outstanding contribution to the community at the 2010 International Builders Show in Las Vegas.
• More than 200 people attended the
Montgomery County Builders & Developers Council luncheon, where
guest speakers—Montgomery County Judge and commissioners—shared positive news about residential growth in the county.
• The Custom Builders Council's 2nd
Annual Bankers Panel explained to builders that there is still money out there for loans and gave hints on how to obtain that money.
• Record attendance for the Remodelors Council's first quarter networking events. Thank you to Cangelosi Company, Bath & Kitchen Showplace, and Pella Windows and Doors for hosting three great events.
