BAY AREA BUILDERS ASSOCIATION NEWS
Keeping the Dream Alive
NASA changes threaten Bay Area jobs, building
B
ABA would like to thank Galveston County Commissioner Ken Clark, who
spoke to builders, remodelers, associates, local business leaders and area residents in attendance for the April 6 meeting. Commissioner Clark spoke about the issues ahead of us as we seek to save NASA jobs in the Bay Area. Ken discussed important task ahead for each one in the area—to develop a “Personal Action Game Plan.” This individual plan should incorporate the following:
• Get the word out! Especially to family and friends in other states, and encourage them to speak to their representatives
• Educate ourselves on NASA benefits
• Petition our national leadership and help them understand the potential loss of quality of life here in the Bay Area

In Washington, plans are underway to shift NASA’s focus from human space flight programs to advanced robotics missions and other research projects. These plans are a part of the proposed 2011 budget. If this transpires, the result could be as many as 7,000 jobs lost in the Bay Area. That is the wrong focus for American’s future.
It is critically important to our future that we continue human space flight. Nothing inspires our youth to get into fields like science, mathematics, technology and engineering more than manned space flight. The NASA vision, its missions and the

NASA astronauts have inspired generations of Americans. Let's keep the dream alive for the next generation.
Upcoming Events
The BABA Golf Tournament will again have a military theme. Play fun and crazy "war games" like Marines Have Landed, Obstacle Course, Under Fire, Grenade Toss and Guided Missile. Scheduled for May 13 at Timber Creek Golf Club in Friendswood, this is a "par-is-your-friend" game. So whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, we can't wait to see you on the links!
On June 1, BABA will welcome Metrostudy's David Jarvis for a mid-year housing update. Find out how the South Houston builders are faring in 2010, and what's on the horizon for 2011. This one is always a sell-out, so reserve your tickets early.
Ar ticle by Phil Messarra M.E., CR of Master Craftsmen. Messara is a certified lead remodeler and a mechanical engineer with a
