Cllr Carol Puthucheary has reported on the closure of Torr
Road in Bridge of Weir, a summary report is provided on
page 3.
Work has started on the refurbishment of Livery Walk and
should last approximately ten weeks.
Good news for the residents of the Ranfurly Area of Bridge
of Weir. SPT has approved a timetable submitted by
McGills Bus Company which comes into effect on 1st March.
There will be six daily (Monday to Saturday) services in
all – four between Houston and Bridge of Weir and two
between Glasgow and Bridge of Weir. Constituents can
obtain a copy of the timetable from myself, McGills or
Pirie Centre. Thanks to those who supported the campaign.
Residents will be aware that at the Budget Meeting of Renfrewshire Council
in January, it was decided to change the qualifying distance for free
transport to Secondary Schools from two miles to the statutory three miles.
This was not a decision lightly taken, but every section of the Council has
had to make savings to balance the budget whilst trying to retain frontline
services. At the time of writing this article, the Roads Department had
not as yet assessed the walking routes to Gryffe High School for the pupils
affected by this decision. Many parents have contacted me with their
concerns and I have ensured that the Roads Department has been made
aware of them all. I have also raised the issue of a possible increase in
road traffi c. The free school transport will only be withdrawn if a “safe”
walking route is identifi ed by the Roads Department. However, parents
should be aware that “safe” means “when accompanied by an adult” – this
has always been the case and applies to walking routes to all schools. As a
contingency plan, I have contacted McGills Bus Company, because I realised
when looking at the new timetable that the fi rst bus in the morning would

not get the children to Gryffe High School on time. McGills have said that
they would happy to put on an extra service, subject to SPT approval.
