THE FIRST new luxury hotel to be built in London for 40 years is to open in April with the debut of the Bulgari Hotel & Residences. The Knightsbridge hotel will have


85 rooms designed by Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and Partners, the firm behind Bulgari’s other hotels in Milan and Bali, as well as an ESPA spa and a 25m pool. Other Bulgari projects are said to be


underway, which will lead to a portfolio of around 10 hotels worldwide. Francesco Trapani, chief executive


officer, Bulgari Group, said: “This is something we have wanted to do for a long time and I’m convinced it will be a further statement of our brand in the UK, which is a strategic market for luxury goods.”

partners were flown to Mauritius for the launch party for the new brand and identity for the group, which rolls out from today [December 1] and which chief executive Paul Jones said would help the resorts stand out in a “sea of sameness”. “Luxury has undergone a sea change. No longer synonymous with must-have labels, fussy cuisine, stuffy decor and an excess of acquisitions, new luxury is about a more thoughtful, more authentic and less complicated experience,” he said.


The name “Lux” is taken from the Latin for “light” and the company’s new philosophy in resort is based around what it called the “Island Light” concept.
