Travel highlight of the year? Bodrum in Turkey was an unexpected surprise and a great reminder that when all the components are present and correct, a Mediterranean holiday can be perfect. The area contains pine forests gently humming with cicadas, wonderful beaches, great historical sites and the food was amazing. (See p48 for his take on gourmet St Moritz.) Where will everyone want to go next year? Iran is certainly gearing up to welcome international travellers and with a host of cultural attractions to hand, it’s sure to be popular for the discerning and adventurous tourist.

Jane Broughton A Cape Town-based freelance writer with 15 years experience, Jane has written for the likes of Conde Nast Traveler, National Geographic Traveller, Conde Nast House & Garden, Wedding Albumand Opulent Living. Travel highlight of the year? Zimbabwe, where I

discovered a surprisingly creative, innovative side to Harare, loved the walking safaris and boating in Mana Pools national park, and had some very up-close moments with elephants in Hwange national park. Where will everyone want to go next year? Ethiopia is definitely on the rise, with some exciting new lodges opening up, such as Limalimo Lodge in the Simien Mountains national park. I’m also hoping that Kenya will regain its place in the sun. Mozambique’s Quirimbas islands and Bazaruto archipelago are also attracting curious travellers. (See p26 for Jane’s update from andBeyond boss Joss Kent.)
