hese days there’s so much more to Miami than the iconic South Beach strip.
Miami
Suggest the exciting new openings on South Beach’s hotel and restaurant scene, but also steer clients to hot newcomers in Little Havana and the downtown Miami Arts Quarter

This hedonistic party puller is no longer the primary draw for some visitors, as travelling further afield has become increasingly popular. A plethora of exciting new art, food and culture launches are tempting visitors out to new, up-and-coming districts – even if just for a night out or a day-time excursion to somewhere like Little Havana. The city’s Cuban district is gritty but perfect for anyone after a real taste, and sound, of multicultural Miami. And when Cubans make up nearly 35% of the city’s population, it would be rude not to. The area comes to life by night making El Cristo (
elcristorestaurant.com) a good bet for beef and chicken empanadas and a pitcher of sangria, or newcomer, Little Bread Cuban Sandwich Company (
lilbread.com). If there’s more stamina into the night, suggest hitting renovated Ball & Chain (
ballandchainmiami.com) for mojitos and salsa, with live music and dancing in the garden to old-school Cuban Jazz. Then there is the Miami Arts Quarter in the city's downtown
and visitors should put the Edition (
edition.com) at the top of their list. Just a year old, it is still one of the newest kids on the block and the famous bowling alley and indoor ice rink make this hotel a must see, if not a must-stay. The Thompson Miami Beach (
thompsonhotels.com), which also opened last November, is well worth a look for boutique style with a Floridian twist, while for a calmer bolt hole, the Metropolitan by Como (
comohotels.com) ticks plenty of boxes. For something so hot off the press the paint will hardly be dry, suggest the Faena Hotel Miami Beach (
faena.com/miami-beach), which opened in November and marks the first part of the Faena District – a new art and culture quarter north of South Beach. For food and drink La Moderna
opened in June (lamoderna-miami) and is perfect for chilled-out Italian. For a classic food and drinks spot, you can’t beat Hakkasan at the Fontainebleau (
hakkasan.com). Just steel yourself for the onslaught of the lobby/bar area on your way out of the hotel; if you can’t beat ‘em either join ‘em – or have an Uber on standby. If there’s time, suggest signing up for the ultimate local food experience
Don’t leave Miami without…visiting Wynwood Walls, the warehouses in the downtown Wynwood district which were once storage space for the cocaine supplies of the cartels in the 1970s. These days, every wall and door is curated for Art Basel in December, with 150,000 visitors expected over the four-day art event.
Wynwood District. Apart from the famous graffiti of Wynwood Walls (
thewynwoodwalls.com) – expect warehouses covered with curated murals by famous artists – this area is the place to be for some of Miami’s hottest new bar and restaurant openings. Stop by Panther (
panthercoffee.com) for coffee – they roast it in vintage pans in front of you – then, for a carnivore’s dream, hit The Butcher Shop (
thebutchershopmiami.com) for burgers, steak and hard liquor. The garden here lights up at night, filled with Miami’s artists, musicians and hipsters chatting over piles of ribs and buckets of cold beer. For brunch, check out the Wynwood Diner (
wynwooddiner.com), a modern update on an American classic that opened in August. But of course, there is still plenty
to shout about back among the bright lights of SoBe. The hotel scene has exploded over the past two years

courtesy ofMiami Culinary Tours (
miamiculinarytours.com). From ceviche and empanadas for breakfast to coffee-break churros, and shredded beef ragu in Gloria Estefan’s restaurant, Larios on the Beach (
lariosonthebeach.com), this is the most delicious way to explore the city. When it comes to SoBe drinks,
where to begin? The volume of choice here is half the problem. But the Rum Line in the Loews Hotel (
loewshotels.com) and the bar at the Soho Beach House (
sohobeachhouse.com) are both popular spots. And for those who want to escape the high(er) prices in hotel bars, Bodega tequila bar (bodegasouthbeach) is well worth popping into for a shot of two.
