HOW HEATHROW WOULD LOOK WITH A THIRD RUNWAY
LONDON HEATHROW HAS RELEASED IMAGES of the airport with a third runway.
The mock-ups include a new central terminal area and business
park. The airport’s expansion plans include two main passenger terminals and transport hubs – Heathrow West (Terminals 5 and 6) and Heathrow East (an extended Terminal 2) – connected by an underground passenger transit and baggage system. Minimum
connection times between terminals would fall from 75 to 60 minutes. Land would also be set aside for commercial developments such as offices and hotels. Heathrow claims that a three-runway airport would provide up to 740,000 flights a year and sufficient hub capacity until at least 2040.

10 NOVEMBER 2015 Emirates, Qantas and SIA
vie for longest flight THE BATTLE TO OPERATE the world’s longest commercial flight is heating up, with Qantas and Singapore Airlines promising ultra long-haul sectors. Last month, Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce announced the airline planned to “open up direct service from Australia to Europe for the first time” using a B787-9, which it expects to take delivery of in 2017, between Perth and London Heathrow.
This would be about 14,500km, beating Emirates’ forthcoming 13,800km Dubai-Panama City route, which is set to become the longest flight in operation when it launches in February with a B777-200LR. Airbus has since confirmed it will develop an ultra long-range A350-900 for Singapore Airlines to fly from the city-state to New York, a distance of 15,300km. SIA is due to receive the first of these aircraft in 2018.

Outbound Adelaide service QR914 will depart Qatar at 2055 and arrive at 1625 the next day. Return leg QR915 will leave at 2130 and land in Doha at 0450 the day after.
The new routes mean Qatar Airways will be operating 28 weekly flights to four Australian cities – Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Adelaide.
