Ball Review TRACK: TOUR X SOLID 48 Hook 16 Length 15 Breakpoint Shape

Manufacturer’s Intent: “Last year we launched the Tour X [June 2014],” says Ebonite’s Rich Hanson. “The Tour X Solid is just that — a solid version of the Tour X. This new release uses the DNA core, which offers a high RG/high Diff combo. Wrapping our DR-4 Solid cover around the DNA core will give Track fans the length and back-end they’re looking for on medium to light oil patterns, with more mid-lane control com- pared to the Tour X.”

Core: The DNA symmetric core, also used in the original Tour X, has a high RG of 2.58 and a high dif- ferential of .055. We saw around 4 inches of flare.

Coverstock: The brilliant blue and black DR-4 solid cover is sanded with 500 and 3000 grit Abralon and topped with Powerhouse Factory

Finish Polish. We measured an RA value of 1.5 and effective surface grit of 5250.

Overview: The original Tour X was a great suc- cess. This is a wonderful complement to the pearl version. On the Stone Street pattern, this ball really smoothed out the typical wet/dry house shot reaction. We were able to play around 13 at the arrows out to six-board at the 46-foot mark on CATS. The ball was smooth and predictable off the breakpoint and carried well. It’s a great benchmark ball to have in your bag to give you the best understanding of the lane pattern. On the lighter house pattern, we got lined up easily from 16 at the arrows out to seven at the 46-foot mark, with a smooth roll off the breakpoint. This ball created a lot of area and predictability on this pattern. On the USBC Open patterns, we had

“THE BALL WAS SMOOTH AND PREDICTABLE OFF THE BREAK- POINT AND CARRIED WELL. IT’S A GREAT BENCHMARK BALL TO HAVE IN YOUR BAG.”

a shot around 13 at the arrows to the 46-foot breakpoint at six-board. We want this in our bag for nationals because it’s smooth and predictable, and gives a great angle off the breakpoint. The Tour X Solid is versatile enough for all bowlers, but especially high-rev players, who will love its predictability off the breakpoint. The solid is about two or three more boards hook than the original Tour X, but with a smoother back-end reaction. It is about two or three boards less hook than the Tour Sic (November 2014).
