Travel firms that fail to address gender equality issues will find themselves increasingly irrelevant to younger generations, the Barclays Travel Forum heard. Jo Rzymowska, Celebrity Cruises’ managing director for the UK and Ireland, said it was a disgrace that there was still an unlevel playing field on pay between men and women in business, including the travel sector.

She was commenting on gender issues and the role of women in travel, alongside Angela Day, founder and chief executive of Affordable Car Hire. Rzymowska said: “Overall we
have moved forward massively.” However, she added: “I think discrimination is too strong a word but there is still a situation where there are not enough companies looking at diversity in the workplace. It’s still incredible
that not many companies have a diverse senior team.” She pointed out about 60% of household buying decisions are made by women. “In order to make sure you are
delivering the right product to the consumer you need to have a diverse workforce,” she said. “You need to do more to support women in their careers.”
